Sleep Doctor’s Take: Tempur-Pedic TEMPUR-PRObreeze Mattress
The Tempur-Pedic TEMPUR-PRObreeze combines memory foam’s ability to cushion the body with materials designed to keep sleepers cool. Our testing team recommends this mattress for shoppers seeking a luxury all-foam or hybrid mattress that prioritizes comfort and temperature regulation. Side and back sleepers below 230 pounds on our team found the mattress especially supportive and comfortable.
Tempur-Pedic TEMPUR-PRObreeze Mattress: An Introduction
Founded in 1991, Tempur-Pedic is a well-known brand that produces great mattresses and other sleep products. Among their all-foam and hybrid models, the TEMPUR-PRObreeze offers the benefits of memory foam while alleviating one of its major drawbacks — the tendency to trap body heat that can leave sleepers feeling uncomfortably warm at night.
The PRObreeze is available in both all-foam and hybrid options, both of which incorporate several proprietary materials aimed at improving temperature regulation. Our testers found that both models slept cool, effectively isolated motion, and kept the spine in alignment.
How We Review
Performance testing helps our team analyze a mattress’ strengths and weaknesses. Our team tests multiple categories that are most important for sleepers to consider when deciding if a mattress is right for their needs. Testers with a variety of body sizes, sleep positions, and firmness preferences ensure that our ratings are both inclusive and accurate.

Answer a few questions to find the right mattress for your unique needs
What’s It Like to Sleep on the TEMPUR-PRObreeze Mattress?
We found that the PRObreeze offered the classic deep hug of memory foam. It responds to the pressure and heat of the body, allowing sleepers to sink into the comfort layers while preventing them from overheating.
Memory foam is especially good at limiting motion transfer, which helps prevent sleepers from noticing their partner’s movements. The PRObreeze’s medium firmness and pressure relief were particularly comfortable for our side and back sleepers under 230 pounds.
Like all mattresses, the PRObreeze has pros and cons. Your budget, sleep style, and firmness preferences all influence whether the PRObreeze is the right mattress for you.
TEMPUR-PRObreeze Pros and Cons
Pros
- Multiple foam layers provide contouring pressure relief
- Movement is easily absorbed, which makes partner’s movements less noticeable
- Hybrid model sleeps cooler than typical memory foam mattresses
Cons
- Memory foam inhibits movement for sleepers
- More expensive than comparable mattresses
- Sleepers over 230 pounds may find the bed’s surface too soft
Sleeping Positions, Body Weight, and Firmness
Both the all-foam and hybrid TEMPUR-PRObreeze models have a medium firm feel, rating 5 out of 10 on our firmness scale.
Mattress firmness in this range works well for many sleepers. However, preferred sleeping positions and body size affect what is most comfortable for an individual. We consider these crucial factors when evaluating mattresses for firmness. Our testing team also consists of people of various body sizes who favor different sleep positions so we can accurately determine how mattresses support different sleeper types.
TEMPUR-PRObreeze – All-Foam
Under 130 lbs. | 130-230 lbs. | Over 230 lbs. | |
---|---|---|---|
Side Sleepers | 5/5 | 5/5 | 2/5 |
Back Sleepers | 5/5 | 3/5 | 2/5 |

TEMPUR-PRObreeze – Hybrid
Under 130 lbs. | 130-230 lbs. | Over 230 lbs. | |
---|---|---|---|
Side Sleepers | 5/5 | 5/5 | 2/5 |
Back Sleepers | 5/5 | 3/5 | 2/5 |
Stomach Sleepers | 3/5 | 2/5 | 2/5 |
Side Sleepers
Side sleepers under 230 pounds gave the PRObreeze all-foam mattress excellent ratings. Side sleepers often prefer mattresses with significant pressure relief, since this position creates distinct pressure points where the shoulders and hips press into the mattress. Side sleepers over 230 pounds on our team found they received more support from Tempur-Pedic’s firmer TEMPUR-LUXEbreeze.
Back Sleepers
Back sleepers under 130 pounds gave high marks to both the PRObreeze all-foam and hybrid models. Average-weight back sleepers found the mattress less comfortable, as they found the hips sank too deeply into memory foam and interfered with proper spinal alignment. Back sleepers over 230 pounds may be happier on a firmer mattress, like the TEMPUR-LuxeAdapt.
Stomach Sleepers
Stomach sleepers under 130 pounds found both models on the PRObreeze provided average support compared to similar mattresses. Testers over 130 pounds who sleep on their stomach found both models too soft to keep their spines in alignment.
Our Performance Ratings
Our team uses a five-point system to rate mattress performance. Our testers consider a variety of factors, including motion isolation, durability, edge support, and pressure relief. Testers rate the mattress in each category from poor (1) to excellent (5).
Pressure Relief
Rating: 4/5
Tempur-Pedic’s proprietary memory foams provide contouring and pressure relief. Our testing team found the TEMPUR-PRObreeze delivered the cushiony feel of memory foam while keeping the spine in alignment. Both the all-foam and the hybrid models prevented pressure points from forming, thanks to memory foam’s ability to adapt to a sleeper’s body. Side sleepers under 230 pounds and back sleepers under 130 pounds found both models particularly comfortable.
Temperature Neutrality
Rating: 3/5 (All-Foam), 4/5 (Hybrid)
Typically, memory foam has a tendency to trap body heat, as it closely conforms to the sleeper’s body. The TEMPUR-PRObreeze is designed to counteract this quality, and our testers found that the hybrid model maintained temperature neutrality slightly better than the foam version. This is due to the pocketed coil support core that promotes air circulation throughout the mattress.
Motion Isolation
Rating: 4/5
Testing indicated that the PRObreeze isolated motion very well. Memory foam is designed to absorb movement from sleepers, rather than allowing it to travel across the bed. Both the all-foam and hybrid PRObreeze mattresses demonstrated very good motion isolation, receiving high marks from our testers. Sleepers should only notice minimal disturbances when their partner or pet moves in bed.
Edge Support
Rating: 2/5 (All-Foam), 3/5 (Hybrid)
All-foam mattresses often lack firm edge support due to their conforming surface, and the all-foam PRObreeze mattress is no exception. While the foam model earned a fair rating in this category, the hybrid version performed better since the support coils bolster edge support. Sleepers who like to sleep near or sit on the edge of the bed might prefer the hybrid model.
Durability
Rating: 4/5
Testing revealed that the high-quality and durable foams used in the PRObreeze mattress should allow the bed to last longer than typical all-foam and hybrid mattresses. Given Tempur-Pedic’s reputation for durability, the PRObreeze is projected to have a slightly longer-than-average lifespan of six to eight years.
Ease of Movement
Rating: 2/5 (All-Foam), 3/5 (Hybrid)
Moving across the surface of the PRObreeze hybrid is fairly easy, thanks to the bouncy responsiveness of the coils in the support core. Our testers found that moving or changing position on the all-foam version was more challenging. The qualities of memory foam that make it ideal for pressure relief also discourage easy movement, since sleepers tend to sink into the surface of the bed.
Sex
Rating: 2/5
The contouring foam in the PRObreeze’s comfort layer can be a somewhat challenging surface for sex. The pliable edges give couples a less stable surface area to move around on, and movement can be difficult due to the contouring qualities of memory foam. The best mattresses for sex tend to have firm edge support and a bit of bounce that facilitates easy movement.
Off-Gassing
Rating: 2/5
Foam mattresses typically off-gas more than other types when they are unboxed. Like other mattresses with foam layers, the PRObreeze has a chemical odor for the first few days. However, the odor should dissipate quickly when the mattress is placed in a well-ventilated area. Despite some odor, the foams used in the PRObreeze are CertiPUR-US certified, meaning emissions meet safety standards and are not considered harmful.
What Is the TEMPUR-PRObreeze Mattress Made Of?
The PRObreeze is constructed from materials that are designed to promote temperature neutrality and counteract memory foam’s tendency to trap heat.
Both the all-foam and hybrid Tempur-PRObreeze mattresses feature a SmartClimate Max Dual Cover system made with phase change material, which is engineered to draw heat away from the sleeper. The cover features a zipper for easy washing. The mattress’ comfort system consists of next-generation TEMPUR-CM+ memory foam, which is intended to increase airflow and breathability. A second layer of memory foam, the original TEMPUR foam, adapts and gently contours to the sleeper’s body.
The all-foam PRObreeze’s support core is made of a dense polyfoam. The support core in the hybrid PRObreeze is made from individually pocketed coils that enable easy air circulation throughout the mattress’ core.
All foams used in the PRObreeze have received CertiPUR-US certification.

TEMPUR-PRObreeze Mattress FAQ
The PRObreeze is designed to sleep cooler than other mattresses. Our testers found the PRObreeze hybrid model had very good temperature neutrality, partially because the pocketed coil support core promotes airflow throughout the mattress.
The LUXEbreeze has an additional layer of ventilated foam, which is designed to be more breathable than other memory foams. Our testers found the firm all-foam LUXEbreeze provided a cooler surface than the all-foam PRObreeze but at a higher price-point.
The TEMPUR-PRObreeze mattress is 12 inches thick. This includes 4 inches of thick comfort layers composed of two different types of memory foam in both the all-foam and hybrid versions.
The TEMPUR-PRObreeze hybrid sleeps cooler than many memory foam mattresses. Our testers rated the temperature neutrality of the PRObreeze hybrid as very good, partially due to the increased air circulation in the coil support core. The foam PRObreeze version has average temperature neutrality for an all-foam mattress.
Tempur-Pedic pioneered the use of memory foam in mattresses. Invented by NASA to keep test pilots comfortable during long flights, the company brought the benefits of memory foam into millions of American bedrooms. Tempur-Pedic mattresses are well known for their ability to mold to each sleeper’s shape, providing a contouring sleep surface.
