Sleep Doctor’s Take: Nectar Premier Hybrid Mattress

Lightly conforming comfort layers and responsive support give the Nectar Premier Hybrid a balanced feel that accommodates a range of sleepers. The mattress’ firm sleep surface and targeted pushback help maintain spinal alignment, which is especially beneficial for sleepers looking to alleviate aches and pains.

Nectar Premier Hybrid Mattress: An Introduction

Founded in 2016, Nectar focuses on value, offering quality materials and construction at an attainable price point.

Nectar’s lineup consists of its flagship all-foam Nectar Mattress and its counterpart, the Nectar Hybrid. The Premier Hybrid and Premier Copper Hybrid are Nectar’s upgraded options of the Nectar and Nectar Hybrid models.

We’ll focus on the Nectar Premier Hybrid Mattress, taking a look at its construction and how it performed in key sleep categories. We’ll also explore how much it costs, where to find it, warranty details, and frequently asked questions.

How We Review

Our team of sleep product experts test each of the mattresses we review. We incorporate feedback from testers with different body types and preferred sleep positions. This allows us to provide an objective analysis of each mattress so you can choose a mattress that best meets your needs.

What’s It Like to Sleep on the Nectar Premier Hybrid?

With a hybrid’s signature balance of comfort and support, the Nectar Premier Hybrid suits many sleeper types. It uses high-density polyfoam and sturdy springs for a firm feel that works particularly well for side sleepers over 230 pounds and back sleepers weighing between 130 and 230 pounds.

The firm feel is tempered by a layer of pressure-relieving memory foam and a responsive transition layer that helps maintain consistent support, making the Premier Hybrid quite versatile. This makes it a good option for combination sleepers and those who prefer a gentle hug with plenty of pushback.

Pros

  • Suitable for side, back, and stomach sleeping
  • Pushback and gentle contouring promote alignment without hindering position changes
  • Sturdy coils keep the midsection from dipping into the sleep surface

Cons

  • Firm foam layers and bouncy coils allow more motion transfer
  • May be too firm for those that prefer deeper contouring
  • Average durability

Sleeping Positions, Body Weight, and Firmness

While optimal firmness levels are subjective, side sleepers typically favor softer mattresses, while back and stomach sleepers need a firmer feel to maintain alignment. Similarly, sleepers under 130 pounds generally prefer a softer mattress that allows for noticeable contouring, while heavier sleepers tend to enjoy a firmer mattress with enough support to keep them from dipping too far into the sleep surface.

The Nectar Premier Hybrid received a firmness rating of 7 on our 10-point firmness scale during testing, which equates to a firm sleep surface with little to no sinkage.

Nectar Premier Hybrid Sleeper Ratings

Back Sleepers4/55/53/5
Stomach Sleepers4/54/53/5

Side Sleepers

For our side sleepers weighing over 230 pounds, the Premier Hybrid was an excellent fit. Its firm feel offered plenty of pushback to help keep the spine aligned. Our side sleeping testers weighing less than 230 pounds noticed less support overall. They found the sleep surface offered adequate comfort and support but lacked the contouring to prevent pressure points from forming.

Back Sleepers

Our back sleeping testers weighing between 130 and 230 pounds gave the Premier Hybrid top scores, citing its targeted support and gentle conforming that promote good sleep posture. While slightly less enthusiastic, back sleepers under 130 pounds also enjoyed the mattress’ balance of plushness and pushback. However, back sleepers over 230 pounds wanted a little more support through the hips to prevent sinkage.

Stomach Sleepers

With a mix of comfort and support, our stomach sleepers weighing less than 230 pounds gave the Premier Hybrid above-average ratings. Stomach sleepers over 230 pounds wanted a bit more support, especially through the midsection. However, the mattress’ robust foam layers and study springs helped maintain spinal alignment.

Our Performance Ratings

We evaluated the Nectar Premier Hybrid Mattress in key performance categories, assigning a score based on a five-point scale, with 1 being poor and 5 being excellent.

Pressure Relief

Rating: 4/5

Our team found that the Premier Hybrid’s gel-infused memory foam contoured to the curves of the shoulders, hips, and lower back, while the two layers of polyfoam provided additional support. In combination with the targeted pushback of the coil support core, the Premier Hybrid relieves pressure points with gentle contouring and a firm surface that helps maintain spinal alignment.

Temperature Neutrality

Rating: 4/5

Foam layers designed with heat-wicking capability help keep the Premier Hybrid’s comfort system from sleeping too hot. The innerspring core with individually pocketed coils is designed to promote airflow. Our testers found the mattress’ construction and breathable cover helped prevent heat and moisture buildup, making it a good choice for those who sleep hot or live in warmer climates..

Motion Isolation

Rating: 3/5

Our testers found the Premier Hybrid’s individually pocketed coils and multiple layers of foam helped dampen movements. While both factors contributed to some reduction in motion transfer, our testers were able to detect some vibrations across the sleep surface, which is typical with a hybrid mattress.

Edge Support

Rating: 4/5

A high-density polyfoam layer adds robustness to the Premier Hybrid’s comfort system, keeping it from collapsing too much under pressure. The effect is compounded by the support core’s reinforced edge, which features thicker coils around the perimeter. During testing, our team found these qualities created more sleepable surface area and made it easier to get into and out of bed.

Durability

Rating: 3/5

With quality materials and construction as well as firmer foam and sturdy springs, testing indicated that the Premier Hybrid should hold up well to normal wear and tear. With that in mind, we estimate the mattress should last about as long as the typical hybrid model, or seven to eight years. Shoppers should note that actual durability will vary based on use and maintenance.

Ease of Movement

Rating: 4/5

Pocketed coils and a layer of responsive ActiveLift polyfoam work together to create a mattress that reacts quickly to changes in pressure. The Premier Hybrid’s firm feel is also key, as it helps keep sleepers on top of the mattress rather than sinking into it. Our testers were also able to shift positions easily as the mattress’ materials compressed and rebounded quickly when they tossed and turned.

Sex

Rating: 4/5

With responsive comfort layers atop a springy coil support core, the Premier Hybrid gives couples a stable foundation with plenty of bounce and enough cushioning to prevent pressure points from forming. Sleepers should find they have the traction and support they need for sex without the heat buildup found in some memory foam hybrids. Additionally, sturdy coils along the perimeter allow couples to use the mattress’ entire surface.

Off-Gassing

Rating: 4/5

The Premier Hybrid scored well in terms of minimizing off-gassing odors. These odors occur when compressed foams emit volatile organic compounds (VOCs), and the Premier Hybrid only uses foams that are certified as low in emissions. Our testers found that the Premier Hybrid’s off-gassing odors were barely noticeable upon unboxing and that they dissipated relatively quickly as the mattress expanded.

What Is the Nectar Premier Hybrid Made Of?

The Nectar Premier Hybrid’s cover includes polyethylene fibers and Microban antimicrobial technology, which are designed to draw heat away from the sleeper and ward off bacteria. The Euro-top design is quilted with a 1-inch layer of gel-infused memory foam and a 2-inch layer of high-density ActiveLift polyfoam.

An inch of polyfoam forms a transition layer between the comfort system and support core. In the support core, Nectar’s 8-inch Infinity innerspring coils are individually pocketed for breathability and targeted support. Thicker coils around the perimeter help keep the edges from collapsing under weight. A 1-inch ActiveSupport polyfoam base layer creates a sturdy foundation.

All the foams used in the Nectar Premier Hybrid are CertiPUR-US certified free of certain harmful chemicals.

Which Nectar Mattress Is Right for You?

Nectar shoppers can choose from the brand’s all-foam or hybrid mattress lineups. Both collections have a base model, the Nectar Mattress or the Nectar Hybrid Mattress, as well as upgraded Premier options.

The Premier Hybrid is Nectar’s mid-range hybrid offering, with an added layer of ActiveLift high-density foam in the comfort layer compared to the Nectar Hybrid. The Premier Copper Hybrid adds cooling technology to the cover and another inch of memory foam for further pressure relief. Back and stomach sleepers are generally well suited to Nectar’s hybrid options.

Nectar’s all-foam collection follows a similar upgrade strategy with the Nectar Premier and the Premier Copper. The Nectar Premier incorporates another inch of memory foam, while the Premier Copper adds 2 inches of memory foam plus built-in cooling technology. These foam options offer a deeper contour that works particularly well for side sleepers.
