The model also has several low-pollutant certifications, ensuring it does not expose sleepers to certain potentially harmful substances.

In addition to its reduced environmental impact, the Saatva Latex Hybrid Mattress harmoniously balances plush comfort and pressure-relieving support through the medium firm (6) feel and the responsive bounce of the latex and coil construction. Each mattress layer contains cooling capabilities to help prevent overheating. The Saatva Latex Hybrid’s many advantages make it suitable for a wide variety of sleepers, including partners with different position preferences.

Saatva Latex Hybrid Mattress: An Introduction

Saatva started in 2010 with the goal of providing easy online shopping for affordable luxury mattresses made of eco-friendly materials. Since its launch, Saatva has expanded its product line and now makes everything from crib mattresses to luxury airbeds.

The company currently offers a wide range of mattress types, including latex, foam, airbed, and hybrid models. Its hybrid and innerspring line includes five mattresses: the Saatva Classic, the Saatva Memory Foam Hybrid, the Saatva Latex Hybrid, the Saatva HD, and the Saatva Youth.

Using our testing methodology, we’ve evaluated the Saatva Latex Hybrid across several performance categories. We’ll explore our findings along with the mattress construction, pros and cons, and what it feels like to sleep on this model.

How We Review

We’ve conducted hands-on tests to evaluate the Saatva Latex Hybrid across a variety of performance categories. Our diverse team ranges in body weight, sleeping position, and personal preferences to provide accurate and inclusive ratings.

What’s It Like to Sleep on the Saatva Latex Hybrid Mattress?

The Saatva Latex Hybrid combines gentle contouring and responsive support for a balanced feel. A wool and cotton Euro-top works with the latex comfort layer to cushion pressure points. Meanwhile, the pocketed coil core lifts the body and facilitates movement right up to the edge of the bed.

Thanks to its balanced design and medium firm (6) feel, this mattress is a good fit for a wide range of sleepers, including back and stomach sleepers of all weights and side sleepers over 130 pounds. Its combination of comfort and support promotes good spinal alignment. The mattress also releases warmth to accommodate hot sleepers and reduce sweating.

Saatva Latex Hybrid Mattress Pros and Cons

Pros

  • Eco-friendly materials certified by GOTS, GREENGUARD Gold, and eco-INSTITUT
  • Ample airflow reduces heat retention and sweating
  • Zoned latex comfort layer provides superior lumbar support

Cons

  • Sleepers pay a $99 processing fee for sleep trial returns
  • Does not isolate motion as well as most foam mattresses or foam hybrids
  • Not suited for side sleepers under 130 pounds

Sleeping Positions, Body Weight, and Firmness

To choose the best mattress for you, you must understand the roles sleeping position, body weight, and mattress firmness play. When all three factors work together optimally, you should experience healthy spinal alignment and comfortable sleep.

Our testers concluded that the Saatva Latex Hybrid has a medium firm feel, which equates to a 6 on our 10-point firmness scale (1 being extra soft and 10 being extra firm). Most testers found that this firmness offers balanced support and comfort.

Side Sleepers: Most side sleepers on our testing team found the Saatva Latex Hybrid Mattress moderately comfortable. Although the model offers above-average responsiveness and good support, it does not provide the considerable contouring that side sleepers typically need to relieve pressure and support good posture. Our testers under 130 pounds didn’t sink in much, so they reported more significant pressure points than our heavier testers.

Back Sleepers: Our testers who sleep on their backs were generally impressed by the Saatva Latex Hybrid. Those under 230 pounds reported that the mattress cradled them enough to relieve pressure and promote proper spinal alignment. Testers over 230 pounds also found the model comfortable for back sleeping, but their hips sank in slightly more deeply than ideal.

Stomach Sleepers: Stomach sleepers on our team were satisfied with the Saatva Latex Hybrid’s support. Those between 130 and 230 pounds found the model an excellent fit. Its medium firm (6) feel kept them from sinking excessively, and the cushioning enhanced comfort. However, those under 130 pounds would have preferred a bit more cushioning, and those over 230 pounds reported that their midsections sagged a bit.

Our Performance Ratings

Our team evaluates each mattress’ performance using a five-point rating scale. We assess metrics, including pressure relief, temperature neutrality, motion isolation, durability, and edge support, and assign them a rating from poor (1) to excellent (5).

Pressure Relief

Rating: 3/5

The Saatva Latex Hybrid offers adequate pressure relief. Its Euro-top cushions the surface, and the 3-inch layer of five-zone natural latex adds buoyant contouring. Thanks to the zoning, our testers noted that their shoulders sank in more deeply than their lower backs for greater pressure relief and lumbar support.

Temperature Neutrality

Rating: 4/5

The mattress’ breathable construction enables ample airflow, resulting in a sleep surface that retained little heat in our testing. The cotton and wool Euro-top lets air circulate, and the wool actively wicks away heat and moisture. Latex is known for its temperature neutrality due to its open-cell structure. This model’s latex layer also contains vented airflow channels to further facilitate cooling. The individually wrapped springs create space throughout the core, allowing for additional airflow.

Motion Isolation

Rating: 3/5

Our testers found that the Saatva Latex Hybrid provides sufficient motion isolation for a latex hybrid model. Latex and coils give the mattress notable bounce, which can occasionally lead to the spread of vibrations. However, this model’s Euro-top dampens movement, and the pocketed coil system limits motion transfer to reduce nighttime disruptions.

Edge Support

Rating: 4/5

We found that the Saatva Latex Hybrid Mattress offers substantial edge support. The sides of the core are reinforced with sturdy perimeter coils to increase durability and longevity. Since the edge didn’t compress excessively, our testers could use the full surface of the mattress and get in and out of bed easily.

Durability

Rating: 3/5

With high-quality materials and reinforced edges, we expect the Latex Hybrid’s lifespan to be on par with similarly constructed models. This model contains Talalay latex, which is less dense than Dunlop latex, so it may break down more quickly. However, Talalay latex is still more durable than most synthetic foams. We anticipate the Saatva Latex Hybrid will hold well for approximately six to eight years.

Ease of Movement

Rating: 4/5

Our testers reported that it was easy to change positions and move around on the Saatva Latex Hybrid. Latex is popular partially for its buoyancy and bounce. The individually wrapped steel coils further enhance the responsiveness.

Sex

Rating: 4/5

The Saatva Latex Hybrid Mattress’ edge support and responsive design make it well suited for intimate activities. While the increased support around the mattress’ perimeter ensures more usable surface area, the bouncy materials prevent couples from feeling trapped in the bed.

Off-Gassing

Rating: 4/5

Our team found that the Saatva Latex Hybrid emits little to no unpleasant odor. The well-known “new mattress smell” comes from chemical emissions from synthetic foam. Since the Latex Hybrid Mattress doesn’t contain synthetic foam, it shouldn’t off-gas. The mattress may have a slight natural smell, but GREENGUARD Gold and eco-INSTITUT certifications verify that this model meets indoor air quality standards.

What Is the Saatva Latex Hybrid Mattress Made Of?

The Saatva Latex Hybrid Mattress consists of five distinct layers, each containing different materials.

The first layer is the top cover, which contains GOTS-certified organic cotton. It’s treated with Guardin, a botanical antimicrobial treatment designed to prevent bacteria, mold, or mildew growth. The second layer features GOTS-certified wool quilted into the cover for comfort, moisture wicking, and temperature regulation. It also serves as a natural flame barrier to eliminate the need for chemical alternatives.

The main comfort layer contains 3 inches of natural Talalay latex. Five firmness zones provide targeted ergonomic support and softness to promote good posture, while air channels let heat escape.

Next, recycled pocketed steel coils make up the support core. Sturdier perimeter coils reinforce the edges. The final layer contains a GOTS-certified organic cotton and wool pad that keeps the layers in place.

The Saatva Latex Mattress holds GREENGUARD Gold and eco-INSTITUT certifications, which verify that the model meets chemical exposure standards.

How Much Does the Saatva Latex Hybrid Cost?

The Saatva Latex Hybrid’s cost is on par with most hybrid mattresses, which typically run from $1,600 to $2,200. While the Saatva Latex Hybrid falls closer to the higher end of this range, it uses high-quality, sustainable materials that usually come at a premium price-point.

Which Saatva Mattress Is Right for You?

Because everyone has different preferences and needs based on weight and sleeping position, Saatva offers several models to accommodate a variety of sleepers. You can determine which is best for you by assessing your needs and weighing them against each model’s features and firmness.

For instance, our testers who weigh less than 130 pounds and sleep on their sides preferred the soft (3) version of the Saatva Classic. Meanwhile, our stomach sleepers over 230 pounds experienced better support on the Saatva HD and the firm (8) versions of the Saatva Classic. For sleepers who prioritize pressure relief and motion isolation, the Saatva Memory Foam Hybrid may be the best option.

Saatva Latex Hybrid Mattress FAQ

Does the Saatva Latex Hybrid have eco-friendly materials?

The Saatva Latex Hybrid contains eco-friendly materials, including GOTS-certified organic cotton and wool. The mattress also has GREENGUARD Gold and eco-INSTITUT certifications, which verify the mattress meets environmental standards.

Is the Saatva Latex Hybrid Mattress good for allergies?

The Saatva Latex Hybrid contains latex, wool, and cotton, which are naturally hypoallergenic. Latex, in particular, is known to resist dust mites, mold, and mildew that could otherwise trigger allergy symptoms. Saatva also treats the mattress cover with Guardin, an antimicrobial treatment designed to inhibit bacteria, mildew, and mold.

What kind of latex is used in the Saatva Latex Hybrid?

The Saatva Latex Hybrid uses natural Talalay latex. Talalay latex is lighter and airier, while Dunlop latex is denser and more durable. While mattress manufacturers often use Dunlop latex for support cores, Talalay latex is popular for pressure-relieving comfort systems.

Is latex better than memory foam?

Latex and memory foam are two distinct materials with different advantages, meaning either option may be better depending on your needs and preferences. Both materials contour to the sleeper’s body for support and comfort.

Latex spreads the compression over a wider area and responds quickly to pressure changes, lending to a floating sensation. This limits heat retention and improves responsiveness. In contrast, memory foam compresses directly under the sleeper and responds relatively slowly to movement, which creates a hugging sensation with enhanced pressure relief and motion isolation.
