Product Details

The At-Home Sleep Study from Sleep Doctor is a disposable sleep apnea test you can administer at home. Each device consists of finger, wrist, and chest sensors that connect to a smartphone app to monitor seven different metrics associated with obstructive sleep apnea (OSA). If worn properly, the test can determine whether you qualify for an OSA diagnosis after just one night. WatchPAT One may be a more convenient alternative to an overnight sleep study, the traditional method for testing people for OSA symptoms.

To receive the test, you'll need to submit some assessment forms and schedule an online appointment with a licensed physician. This helps determine if you meet the diagnostic criteria for OSA. If the test confirms you have OSA symptoms, you'll meet with a sleep coach to discuss treatment and other follow-up steps. The test is disposable. You must be 18 years of age to take this test.

  • Chest, wrist, and finger sensors measure peripheral arterial tone, heart rate, blood oxygen, actigraphy, body position, snoring, and chest motion
  • Testers receive an AHI score in their follow-up email
  • Those who meet diagnostic criteria for OSA after testing may be prescribed PAP therapy
  • Unopened tests may be returned within 60 days

We recommend an at-home sleep study for:

  • People who frequently snore or wake up gasping for air
  • Those who suspect they have sleep apnea but wish to forgo traditional polysomnography

Frequently Asked Questions

Will the sleep test cause sleep problems?

Some people who take our at-home sleep test experience anxiety during the night, which can make it hard to fall asleep and lead to inaccurate results. However, we're confident you'll be more comfortable and relaxed in your own bed than if you participated in an overnight sleep study at a sleep center.

For most people, the test can gather enough information after one night – even if you are nervous and experience sleep disruptions. If you sleep 2.5 hours or less, you should consider retaking the sleep test.

How does the at-home sleep study work?

The WatchPAT features a wrist sensor, pulse oximeter, and chest sensor. The device uses three points of contact – the wrist, finger, and neck – to collect data for seven key sleep apnea metrics.

The device measures central and obstructive sleep apnea events, true sleep time, snoring, breathing rates, oxygen saturation levels, heart rate, your body's position, and how much time you spend in each sleep stage.

Designed for comprehensive results, our sleep test helps your doctor make an informed diagnosis and therapy recommendations. The WatchPAT's sensors send data directly to a doctor via your cell phone's Bluetooth.

How much does a sleep study cost?

If you opt for an overnight study at a sleep center, expect to pay anywhere from $500 to $3,000 for your stay.

At-home sleep tests are much more affordable by comparison. Our test costs $189 and includes a virtual consultation with a board-certified sleep specialist to make sure you are a candidate for a sleep study.

How are people tested for sleep apnea?

Anyone seeking a sleep apnea diagnosis has two options: an overnight sleep study at a sleep lab, or at-home test.

Most center-based sleep studies are conducted over the course of one to two nights. At-home tests are faster and more convenient. Keep in mind that both types of tests require a doctor's prescription.

What is the purpose of a sleep study?

Sleep studies are used to monitor your sleep patterns. Doctors use the study's results to diagnose insomnia, sleep apnea, and other sleep disorders.

Do you need a prescription for sleep apnea therapy?

CPAP machines and face masks are federally regulated medical devices in the United States, so you'll need a prescription for these components – both of which are essential for CPAP therapy. You can obtain a prescription by completing a sleep study or test, then receiving a sleep apnea diagnosis from a board-certified physician.

Is the WatchPAT One home sleep test approved for DOT?

Yes, the WatchPAT One is FDA-approved and accepted for use by the Department of Transportation (DOT). However, it is not approved for use by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA).

Is the Home Sleep Study Suitable for Individuals Under 18?

No, the WatchPAT One Home Sleep Study cannot be used by children under 18 years of age. The device is designed and calibrated for adult use, and its accuracy may be affected by the smaller size of a child’s fingers.

If a sleep disorder is suspected in a child, it’s important to consult with a healthcare provider who can recommend the appropriate diagnostic tools tailored to pediatric needs.

Do I need a smartphone to complete my home sleep test?

Yes, a compatible smartphone is required. The WatchPAT app guides you through setup, ensures proper sensor placement, and transmits your sleep data for analysis. Check compatibility: Apple App Store | Google Play

Clear and Professional and not Pushy

I was lined up to take a sleep test through my primary care facility; but they recently converted to "for profit". The scheduled sleep test using the exact same equipment Sleep Doctor uses went from a promised $300 to $1765 when they saw my insurance. I canceled the appointment.

My physician said that Sleep Doctor would be fine for getting a diagnosis.

The equipment arrived quickly. I put it on and connected to my phone and the data were uploaded. And unlike my local clinic who promised to /fine/ me if I didn't return the equipment Sleep Doctor told me to dispose of it once my results were computed.

The questions I had before the test and the consultations after were all very thorough high-end medically assuring results.

Everything, all the data printed out along with a signed prescription I can take to my doctor tomorrow to address the medical issue I have.

During my consultation after the test I was not pushed or encouraged to buy equipment from Sleep Doctor but I was told it's available.

Eventhough Sleep Doctor was all online the experience was exactly what real Healthcare should be. No unpleasant monetary surprises.

    Surprisingly Great!

Ordered the sleep test and set it up a couple of weeks later. The WatchPAT was simple to set up with the app and after a good night’s sleep, I had the test results a day or so later. The test results were very detailed and easy to decipher. I then had a call with one of the doctors and was really pleased with the conversation. There was no selling, etc., it was very informational and gave lots of good feedback/ideas to address the sleep test results. I would highly recommend Sleep Doctor. It was a MUCH better experience compared to an in lab sleep test I had a few years ago, no comparison.

    Home Sleep Study Review

The test was easy and straightforward. The price was affordable and I was able to skip the hassle at the doctor's office. I made a mistake with my first test and they sent me a free replacement.

The test results came back in only a week and were easy to understand and the sleep doctor was very informative.

    Would recommend 100%

    Lifesaver

The sleep study showed my dad was suffocating 85% of the night due to SEVERE sleep apnea, both obstructive and centralized. The sleep apnea made his cortisol levels spike off the charts. The elevated cortisol triggered bacterial overgrowth in his gut and chronic constipation as well and frequent and debilitating nausea. The cortisol also caused symptoms of early dementia that we thought was Alzheimer's, which is what triggered all this testing.

The test itself is super easy to administer. The report came back fast and is very comprehensive.
