To keep your Bongo Rx EPAP device clean and functioning properly, wash it with mild, unscented soap and rinse thoroughly with warm water after each use. Do not disassemble the device, as doing so may cause damage and is not necessary for cleaning.

Gently shake out any excess water and inspect the device for signs of wear or damage, ensuring the valves remain clear of any obstructions. Allow the device to air dry completely away from direct sunlight. For optimal performance and hygiene, the nasal cushions should be replaced every 90 days.

What's in the Box?

  • 4 silicone nasal cushions (small, medium, large, and extra large)
  • Adjustable headgear
  • Drying stand
  • Storage container
  • Instruction manual

Who It's for

  • Those with mild to moderate obstructive sleep apnea
  • Frequent travelers or campers who need a portable sleep apnea solution
  • People who primarily breathe through their nose
  • Patients seeking a quiet, discreet treatment without motors or tubing
  • Those who snore heavily and/or frequently, but haven't had success using CPAP or anti-snoring mouthpieces
  • People who don't mind paying out of pocket for an anti-snoring solution

How It Works

Bongo Rx works by controlling your breathing in your upper airway. After placing one dilator in each nostril, the silicone exterior seals the nasal passages and your breathing activates the device.

Small valves in the dilators open when you inhale, allowing you to breathe comfortably. The valves close when you exhale, redirecting the air to create expiratory positive air pressure (EPAP) and keep your airway open the next time you exhale. This can reduce snoring without a mouthpiece or CPAP equipment.

How to Use It

  1. Select the right size: Try the included small, medium, large, or extra-large nasal inserts to determine which provides the most secure and comfortable seal.
  2. Gently place the soft silicone cones into each nostril, ensuring they fit snugly.
  3. Lie down in your usual sleeping position. You can use the optional headgear for added security, especially if you change sleep positions frequently.
  4. Breathe normally.
  5. In the morning, remove the devices and wash them with warm water and mild soap. Let them air dry completely before storing or using again.

How is Bongo Rx different from CPAP therapy?

Unlike CPAP therapy, which delivers continuous positive airway pressure during both inhalation and exhalation, Bongo Rx generates pressure only during exhalation using your own breath.

Also, CPAP machines require electricity, a hose, a humidifier, and a mask, while Bongo Rx is a compact, valve-based device that fits just inside the nostrils—no machine or power needed. It can be a convenient alternative for people who are unable to tolerate, access, or prefer not to use traditional CPAP therapy.

Will I need a prescription for Bongo Rx?

Yes. In the U.S., all devices used to treat obstructive sleep apnea (OSA), including the Bongo Rx, require a prescription. Be sure your doctor includes “Bongo Rx” on the prescription.

Is Bongo Rx covered by insurance?

No, most insurance plans do not currently cover the Bongo Rx. However, since it’s a prescription medical device, it may be eligible for reimbursement through a Flexible Spending Account (FSA) or Health Savings Account (HSA). Check with your insurance provider to confirm your coverage options.

Is Bongo Rx covered by Medicare?

No. Medicare only covers durable medical equipment (DME), such as CPAP machines. Since EPAP devices like the Bongo Rx are not classified as DME, they are not typically covered.

Is there an acclimation period?

Yes. It may take a few nights to adjust to using the Bongo Rx, especially if you’re new to sleep apnea treatments. Consistent use usually makes the transition easier.

How soon will I notice improvement?

Some users notice better sleep quality and reduced symptoms—such as snoring and daytime fatigue—within just a few days. For others, it may take a couple of weeks to fully experience the benefits.

Does Bongo Rx work for mouth breathers?

Bongo Rx is designed for people who primarily breathe through their nose. If you tend to breathe through your mouth while sleeping, this device may not be effective or comfortable. Mouth breathers may benefit more from other options, such as an oral appliance or anti-snoring mouthpiece.

Reviews Summary
Customers say this sleep device helps with snoring and sleep quality, though experiences vary. Many users report improved sleep and reduced snoring after an adjustment period of several nights. The device includes multiple sizes for fitting and stays in place without straps for some users. Common feedback includes initial discomfort while adapting to breathing against pressure when exhaling. Several mention it's easier to breathe in than out. Some users experience nasal irritation or find certain sizes don't fit properly. Reviews are mixed on comfort, with some finding it falls out during sleep while others sleep through the night. Many appreciate it as a travel-friendly alternative to larger machines.

    Hard to believe

I purchased the Bongo starter pack after many mouth pieces, tapes, and other gizmos, most of which made me gag. Before using I recorded my snoring on an app and I hit many peaks indicating very loud snoring, which wakes me up often. On my third night of using Bongo, I recorded my snoring again. Not once did I peak in the loud zone. It takes a bit of getting accustomed to but totally doable. Pictures are proof!

Total Waste of Money: Uncomfortable and Unreliable

I really wanted the Bongo Rx to be the solution for my sleep apnea, but after a week of trying to make it work, I’m throwing in the towel. This "starter kit" has been nothing but a source of frustration and sleep deprivation.

    • Extremely Uncomfortable: The silicone inserts feel stiff and intrusive. No matter which size I tried from the kit, I felt a constant, irritating pressure inside my nostrils that made it nearly impossible to drift off.

    • Won't Stay Put: The device is supposed to stay in place via a friction fit, but it fails miserably. I’d wake up a few hours into the night only to find the device sitting on my pillow or lost in the sheets.

    • Worsened Sleep Quality: Because I’m constantly adjusting it or worrying about it falling out, I’m actually sleeping less than I was before.

    • No Returns or Refunds: To top it all off, it sucks that there is no way to return this or get your money back. Since it’s a personal medical device, you’re basically stuck with an expensive piece of plastic that doesn't work.

I wanted to love this product

I was hopeful and optimistic this would help my mild sleep ap apnea. The pamphlet said it can take some adjustment. Keeping that in mind I tried it for several nights. The first night I found it difficult to exhale through the tube. The grid on the ends are partially covered with a film. Perhaps this is supposed to assist with the apnea? I had to remove it at 3 AM because I was struggling to breath (something that's never been an issue for me). Subsequent nights were the same. The final night I tried it, I woke up drooling because I was breathing through my mouth. I've NEVER drooled while sleeping. Needless to say after several nights of terrible sleep this product didn't hit the mark for me.

    So far, so good!

It's only been a few nights since I started with Bongo Rx. Absolutely no problem adjusting to something in my nostrils as I sleep. I find that I haven't awakened as much as I had in the recent past. Cautious optimism that this will manage my diagnosis of moderate sleep apnea.

    So far, so good.

Have been using these bongos for about 2 weeks, and I’ve seen a lot of improvement. I have no snored anymore and I feel waking up more refreshed. I do have a two year old and 3 month old, but they’re another story. Breathing at first is a little hard, but it takes a couple days and you’ll still feel the resistance but it isn’t nearly as bad as the first few days. I do think the product works. I have mild sleep apnea.

    Still unsure, but optimistic

Okay these definitely are taking time to adjust to. I'm about a week into using it. I definitely prefer it over getting a CPAP, but it's still not my favorite. I'm just so desperate for sleep and hoping this will get me to a better place in the short term. Long term, my hope is that myofunctional therapy will help decrease apnea symptoms, as well as trying to get back into running to also help strengthen my airways. I'm curious to see if lifestyle change will be enough (though I'm in my early 30's and not overweight), or if I'll always have to be dependent on something to prevent or decrease apnea symptoms. I haven't tried the headgear with the bongos yet because it just feels more cumbersome, but I've had a night or two where it fell out at some point so I may give it a try. One other thing, for me, moisture accumulates inside the bongos. So after several hrs of laying on one side, when I turn over all the "condensation droplets" run back into my noise. Not a deal breaker. But not the most fun either.

    Bongos

It’s been 2 days only so far. The resistance is the part I’m having some difficulty with but I hope my breathing can get stronger and adjusted bc of it. Other than that, I’m hoping this helps my sleep 😴
