How Does It Feel?

How Does It Feel?
The mattress is available in profiles of 12 and 14 inches. Both share the same general construction, but foam layers are slightly thicker for the 14-inch model. Two foam layers make up the comfort system. This aligns with our industry research, which has found that most people value “balance” as one of the most important mattress qualities. Testers on our team who fall into this weight group rated both sides of the Plank Firm as either good or excellent. The same holds true for most back and stomach sleepers, who generally need less cushioning and more support than side sleepers.
How Does It Feel?
The flippable Plank Firm is ideal for anyone who has struggled to find a mattress that feels supportive enough. Both sides feel exceptionally firm, and a lightweight design allows for easy rotations. If you enjoy sleep surfaces that feel flat as a board, then the extra firm surface should do nicely. We’ve tested very few mattresses that match the even support of the Plank Firm’s extra firm side.
People who sleep hot on foam are also good matches for this mattress. A firmer feel means less sinkage and more surface airflow, as evidenced by our temperature sensor readings. If you’re someone who sleeps very hot, you can order a PCM cooling panel to be sewn onto both sides of the Plank Firm. We measure firmness on a 10-point scale and assign lower numbers to softer beds and higher numbers to firmer beds. Whether you pick a flippable bed with the same firmness level on both sides or a model with different feels, it’s important to select one with a firmness level that’s appropriate for your weight and sleeper type. A good rule of thumb is the heavier you are, the more support you may need.

The average mattress is between 8 and 15 inches thick, though they can reach as high as 20 inches tall or more.
