PlushBeds Botanical Bliss Mattress: Our Verdict
The PlushBeds Botanical Bliss marries luxury with natural and organic materials. This natural latex mattress is available in different height, size, and firmness options to suit a range of sleepers.
The Botanical Bliss comes in two firmness levels, which PlushBeds calls Medium and Medium Firm. These correspond to medium firm (6) and firm (7) on our firmness scale. Both of these firmness options are available in 9-, 10-, and 12-inch versions. All models are exceptionally responsive, thanks to latex comfort and support layers. It’s a great design for sleepers who don’t like deep contouring.
The cost of the Botanical Bliss is on par with the price of other high-quality latex mattresses. Organic materials, adjustable comfort layers, free shipping, and a limited lifetime warranty are further enticements for shoppers.

Answer a few questions to find the right mattress for your unique needs
PlushBeds Botanical Bliss Mattress: An Introduction
PlushBeds is a California-based mattress and bedding retailer that focuses on sustainable manufacturing practices using natural and organic materials. The company offers a range of luxury mattresses, including memory foam, latex, and hybrid models.
One of PlushBeds’ bestsellers is the Botanical Bliss, a latex mattress composed of organic cotton and wool, organic Dunlop latex, and natural Talalay latex. The versatile design comes in various heights and firmness levels, as well as split sizes. The latter is especially useful for couples with different firmness preferences.
We’ll give an in-depth review of the Botanical Bliss, from materials to performance ratings. We’ll also compare the different height and firmness options to help you find the best mattress for your needs.
How We Review
Our sleep experts take a thorough, holistic approach when testing mattresses. They spend considerable time lying on a mattress to assess factors like pressure relief, firmness, and support. Advanced tools like pressure and heat mapping and volatile organic compound (VOC) detectors are also used to evaluate performance and the potential for off-gassing.
What’s It Like to Sleep on the PlushBeds Botanical Bliss Mattress?
The PlushBeds Botanical Bliss has a responsive surface with minimal sinkage. An organic cotton cover gives the bed a soft-to-the-touch feel, while wool padding below adds plushness and regulates surface temperature.
Springy Talalay latex cushions pressure points while reinforcing heavier body parts. The dense Dunlop latex support core promotes spinal alignment by limiting sinkage. Both types of latex are quite breathable, helping the mattress stay temperature neutral. The edges retain their structure when under pressure, making it easy to get into and out of bed.
PlushBeds Botanical Bliss Pros and Cons
Pros

- Responsive surface can lead to motion transfer
Sleeping Positions, Body Weight, and Firmness
Firmness attributions vary between companies, which can be confusing to shoppers. We use the same 10-point firmness scale to rate all mattresses: 1 is extra soft, while 10 is extra firm. Most mattresses fall somewhere between 3 and 8 on this scale.
While PlushBeds calls its two Botanical Bliss options Medium and Medium Firm, our testing team determined that the former is medium firm (6) and the latter firm (7). For simplicity’s sake, we’ll refer to the models using PlushBeds’ terminology throughout this review.
Both the Medium and Medium Firm options come in three heights: 9, 10, and 12 inches. The Medium models have more give, so they’re a good match for sleepers under 130 pounds. People over 130 pounds receive more pushback on the Medium Firm models, which is especially crucial for stomach and back sleepers.
The split sizes come in dual firmness levels, so co-sleepers can choose separate feels. This is ideal for couples with different body types and sleep styles.
How soft or firm a mattress feels depends on its materials and construction as well as a sleeper’s body weight and sleep position. People under 130 pounds don’t sink into a mattress as much, so they usually like a softer, more yielding feel. Sleepers over 230 pounds typically need a firmer mattress to support their body weight.
Along with weight, your sleep position can help you choose a suitable firmness. Side sleepers generally do best with a softer mattress that allows the hips and shoulders to sink considerably. The Medium models of the Botanical Bliss have a plusher feel well suited to side sleepers. Most stomach and back sleepers are better off with one of the Medium Firm models, as they need more support to prevent deep sinkage.
PlushBeds Botanical Bliss Sleeper Ratings
Side Sleepers
Model | Side Sleepers Under 130 lbs. | Side Sleepers 130-230 lbs. | Side Sleepers Over 230 lbs. |
---|---|---|---|
9″ Medium | 5/5 | 5/5 | 2/5 |
10″ Medium | 5/5 | 5/5 | 2/5 |
12″ Medium | 5/5 | 5/5 | 2/5 |
9″ Medium Firm | 2/5 | 3/5 | 3/5 |
10″ Medium Firm | 2/5 | 3/5 | 4/5 |
12″ Medium Firm | 2/5 | 3/5 | 4/5 |
The mattress’ responsive design promoted good sleep posture for most of the side sleepers on our testing team. The knit cover and wool panel padded the hips and shoulders, while the Talalay latex evenly contoured to the spine. The solid Dunlop latex core kept the hips from dipping below the shoulders.
The Medium models performed exceptionally well for our side sleepers under 230 pounds. The softer surface allowed the hips and shoulders to sink more, which are the two sharpest pressure points for side sleepers. The Medium Firm models were a better fit for side sleepers over 230 pounds. These sleepers sink more, so the sturdier feel provides more support.
Back Sleepers
Model | Back Sleepers Under 130 lbs. | Back Sleepers 130-230 lbs. | Back Sleepers Over 230 lbs. |
---|---|---|---|
9″ Medium | 4/5 | 3/5 | 2/5 |
10″ Medium | 4/5 | 3/5 | 2/5 |
12″ Medium | 4/5 | 3/5 | 2/5 |
9″ Medium Firm | 3/5 | 5/5 | 3/5 |
10″ Medium Firm | 3/5 | 5/5 | 5/5 |
12″ Medium Firm | 3/5 | 5/5 | 5/5 |
Most back sleepers do well with a moderately firm mattress that doesn’t overly conform to the spine. Our back sleepers under 230 pounds enjoyed neutral spine alignment on the Botanical Bliss, as neither firmness level is excessively soft or firm.
The springy latex comfort system provided ample pushback to support the lower back. The robust core also reinforced the midsection, helping the spine stay level. Dunlop latex is especially durable, so it should resist sagging better than most synthetic foams.
Back sleepers in all weight groups were impressed with the feel of the Medium Firm models, which permits the least amount of sinkage. This prevented an excessive curve to the spine. The Medium models supported back sleepers under 230 pounds well while still cushioning their shoulders and legs.
Stomach Sleepers
Model | Stomach Sleepers Under 130 lbs. | Stomach Sleepers 130-230 lbs. | Stomach Sleepers Over 230 lbs. |
---|---|---|---|
9″ Medium | 3/5 | 2/5 | 2/5 |
10″ Medium | 3/5 | 2/5 | 2/5 |
12″ Medium | 3/5 | 2/5 | 2/5 |
9″ Medium Firm | 3/5 | 5/5 | 4/5 |
10″ Medium Firm | 3/5 | 5/5 | 4/5 |
12″ Medium Firm | 3/5 | 5/5 | 4/5 |
Similar to back sleepers, our testers who prefer stomach sleeping really liked the Medium Firm models. Stomach sleepers should avoid allowing their midsection to sink too far into a mattress. The extra pushback on the Medium Firm models limited sagging for stomach sleepers in all weight brackets.
The Medium models were sturdy enough for stomach sleepers under 130 pounds, but collapsed somewhat for testers weighing more. These sleepers felt more supported on the Medium Firm models.
Our Performance Ratings
A mattress’ overall performance depends on various criteria, which we assess using a five-point scale. A 1 rating is deemed poor, while 5 is excellent. Some performance factors are more important to your comfort than others. Focusing on those ratings can help you find the best model for your needs.
Model | Pressure Relief | Temperature Neutrality | Motion Isolation | Edge Support | Durability | Ease of Movement | Sex | Off-Gassing |

12″ Medium | 4/5 | 4/5 | 4/5 | 3/5 | 4/5 | 4/5 | 4/5 | 4/5 |
9″ Medium Firm | 2/5 | 4/5 | 2/5 | 4/5 | 4/5 | 4/5 | 4/5 | 4/5 |
10″ Medium Firm | 3/5 | 4/5 | 3/5 | 4/5 | 4/5 | 5/5 | 5/5 | 4/5 |
12″ Medium Firm | 4/5 | 4/5 | 3/5 | 4/5 | 4/5 | 5/5 | 5/5 | 4/5 |
Pressure Relief
Our testers gained notable pressure relief on the Botanical Bliss, regardless of sleep position and weight. The comfort latex alleviated tension by evenly distributing body weight and the sturdy latex core encouraged good spine alignment.
The 9-inch Medium Firm mattress was the only model that somewhat disappointed our testers in this category. The surface felt a little too rigid, especially for side sleepers and testers under 130 pounds.
Temperature Neutrality
Latex is known for its breathability, so we weren’t surprised that the Botanical Bliss excels at temperature control. Heat retention is also less of an issue since latex doesn’t closely conform to the body. Breathable cotton and wool help the mattress’ surface stay cool and dry.
The Medium Firm models regulated temperature slightly better than the Medium beds because they contour less to the body. Hot sleepers and couples may want to keep this in mind when deciding between firmness options.
Motion Isolation
While latex is rather springy, the Botanical Bliss still manages to isolate motion well. Dunlop latex is fairly dense, so the core absorbs some of the comfort system’s bounce. The upper cotton and wool layers also help muffle surface vibrations. People sharing a bed may notice greater motion transfer on the 9-inch Medium Firm mattress, as it’s the most responsive.
Edge Support
All Botanical Bliss models have strong edge support, as the latex core resists surface impressions. The comfort system’s generous pushback also prevents premature sagging along the sides. Couples often value edge support since it translates to more usable bed space. A solid perimeter tends to make getting in and out of bed easier, too.
The Medium Firm models counteract sinkage the most, so they have slightly superior edge support compared with the Medium models.
Durability
Latex resists softening and premature wear better than most mattress materials. Dunlop latex has a denser structure that makes it extra durable, which is why it’s commonly used in mattress support cores. With its latex construction and quality workmanship, we expect that the Botanical Bliss should support sleepers for at least seven to nine years.
Ease of Movement
Our testers had no problem adjusting positions on the Botanical Bliss, thanks to its responsive design. Talalay latex is moderately conforming, so sleepers shouldn’t feel constrained when changing positions. The core’s substantial pushback also facilitates movement. A bouncy surface with sturdy edges makes entering and exiting a bed easier, especially if you have mobility issues.
Sex
A responsive surface tends to be more conducive to sex. Most couples therefore find latex mattresses like the Botanical Bliss quite favorable for sex. Minimal sinkage provides stability, while strong edge support allows more space to move. Naturally breathable materials also help prevent overheating.
Off-Gassing
The Botanical Bliss doesn’t contain any synthetic foams or adhesives, so chemical off-gassing isn’t an issue. You might detect a faint rubbery smell from the latex when the mattress is unboxed. Any initial odors quickly dissipate, though. Our testers sensitive to smell didn’t find the new mattress scent offensive in any way.
What Is the PlushBeds Botanical Bliss Mattress Made Of?
The PlushBeds Botanical Bliss is a natural latex mattress available in three heights and two firmness levels. All versions have a soft and breathable organic cotton cover. Its circular knit pattern delivers gentle pressure relief. Organic wool and cotton panels below add subtle plushness. The wool is also a natural flame barrier.
The comfort system uses natural Talalay latex to cushion pressure points. This type of latex is quite springy, so it lightly contours to a sleeper’s body. The Medium Firm model uses denser Talalay latex, creating a sturdier surface. The 9-inch and 12-inch mattresses use 2 inches of Talalay latex, while the 10-inch beds contain 3 inches.
All three heights feature a 6-inch Dunlop latex support core. This latex is sustainably sourced from rubber trees in Sri Lanka. Dunlop latex is dense and durable, so it stabilizes the upper layers. The 12-inch model has an extra 3-inch layer of Dunlop latex above the support core. All models have fabric borders with convenient carrying handles.
The Botanical Bliss is notable for its combination of natural and organic mattress materials that are biodegradable. The cotton and wool is certified organic by the Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS). This trustmark also indicates fair labor practices.
All of the Dunlop latex is Global Organic Latex Standard (GOLS) certified, showing it’s free of chemicals, fillers, dyes, and pesticides. GREENGUARD Gold and Eco-Institut certifications specify low VOC emissions.

Which PlushBeds Mattress Is Right for You?
If you’re not convinced the Botanical Bliss is right for you, PlushBeds makes other mattresses worth considering. Budget-conscious shoppers may want to look at the Eco Bliss, an affordable foam mattress that combines a natural Talalay latex comfort system with a sturdy polyfoam support core.
For those in need of extra pressure relief, the PlushBeds Cool Bliss blends memory foam and latex comfort layers to alleviate tension. This mattress is more conforming than PlushBeds’ latex models, but it resists heat buildup better than competing memory foam designs.

PlushBeds Botanical Bliss Mattress FAQ
The Botanical Bliss Mattress is handmade in California. Materials are sustainably sourced from various parts of the world. The Dunlop latex is from Sri Lanka, while the organic wool is British.
The Botanical Bliss is made from materials that naturally resist common allergens, so it may be suitable for those with allergies. Natural latex is generally considered hypoallergenic, as it resists dust mites, bacteria, and fungus. That said, some people are allergic to certain proteins in latex, but this only applies to about 1% of the population.
An upper layer of organic wool acts as a natural flame barrier, so the Botanical Bliss doesn’t use synthetic flame retardants.
Latex and memory foam are commonly used in mattress comfort systems because they offer both support and cushioning. However, there are notable distinctions in how the two materials provide pressure relief. Memory foam is known for its deep contouring, as it’s softer and slow to regain shape. Latex is more firm and responsive, so it doesn’t conform as closely to sleepers’ bodies. Those who like to feel cradled by a mattress usually prefer memory foam. Hot sleepers, on the other hand, usually benefit from latex’s airier structure.
Latex is rather durable, so it resists premature wear better than many synthetic foams. It doesn’t soften from body heat as much as memory foam, so it’s also less likely to develop deep surface impressions. That said, any type of mattress eventually softens with age. The rate and degree of softening depends on the material, a sleeper’s body weight, the presence of co-sleepers, and how well a person cares for their mattress.
