How myTAP Works

myTAP is a non-custom, precision-fit oral appliance that gently pushes the lower jaw forward, tightening the upper airway's soft tissues and muscles, reducing airway collapse during sleep and minimizing snoring vibrations.

The device’s adjustment dial allows users to fine-tune the jaw's advancement up to 22 millimeters in ⅓ millimeter increments for optimal comfort and effectiveness. Fitting the myTAP is straightforward and can be completed in approximately 15 minutes. And since the trays are constructed from a thin, low-profile plastic material that’s reusable and reheatable, you can refit the device as needed.

Also included is an AM aligner to prevent your teeth from shifting, so it won't mess up your Invisalign.

Get all your questions answered

Do you need a prescription for myTAP?

Yes, you will need a prescription from a licensed healthcare provider to obtain a myTAP oral appliance. Once you have one, you can order myTAP online through authorized retailers such as SleepDoctor.com.

Does insurance cover oral appliances for sleep apnea?

In many cases, yes — most insurance plans will cover a custom TAP Appliance using the billing code E0486. Your out-of-pocket cost will depend on your specific insurance provider and plan details.

What if I need myTAP to allow for more tongue space?

Vertical shims are available for purchase in sizes including 6, 9 and 12 millimeters. When you add vertical shims to myTAP, your tongue will have more room to move freely while you're wearing the appliance to sleep, mouth closed.

How do I adjust myTAP to fit my mouth better?

Follow these steps to fit your myTAP.

1. Get organized: Read instructions and warnings first. You’ll need boiling water, a mirror, a timer and a pair of tongs.

2. Prepare the upper tray: Set aside the adjustment dial and lower tray. Place the upper tray over your upper teeth. If you need to narrow or widen the tray, you can make those adjustments later. Remove the tray from your mouth and submerge it in boiling water for 1 minute. Use tongs or a fork to take the tray out of the water and set aside for 20 seconds until it cools slightly.

3. Fit the upper tray: If you need to adjust width, pull the upper tray apart or squeeze it together. Place the tray over your upper teeth and use a mirror to make sure the adjustment post is directly in the middle of your lips. Bite down on the tray for one minute. Close your lips around the tray while pressing your tongue against the inner side walls to create suction. Then, use your fingers to smooth your skin along your jawline to flatten excess material. This helps create a flat surface over molars. Allow to cool while in your mouth for three more minutes.

4. Remove the tray and repeat: Remove the tray and run it under cool water. Repeat all of these steps for the lower tray.

5. Assemble your myTAP: Slide the adjustment mechanism back into the adjustment post, turning the screw until secure. Position the device so the upper and lower trays are aligned. Gradually advance the jaw by turning the adjustment post 180 degrees counterclockwise every two to three nights until symptoms are alleviated.

What if I need to return it?

For myTap oral appliances purchased through Sleep Doctor, if you return the product unopened and unused within 30 days, you’ll receive a full refund. Returns made after 30 days but within 90 days are eligible for store credit. Read more about our returns policy here

Wow - Seriously Wow - it works!

I was so skeptical but the price was reasonable so I thought I should give it a try. For the first time in years I didn’t wake up 4 to 5 times in the night. I was told I stopped snoring by people in my house. It was easy and quick to mold properly. I am actually totally amazed - I can’t wait to see how this translates into better health over the upcoming months. I only regret not trying it sooner.

Took a few times to adjust a good fit. Still “lightly” snoring with it in, only worn it twice. So far so good …

Frustrated and can’t get mouth closed to sleep comfortably

Wish I had read reviews more carefully first and gone with a different choice. When counseling people, it would be helpful to note the fact that you’ll have to sleep with your mouth basically open due to the rod in front. Do not recommend.

    Takes some getting used to

Much better than lugging around a CPAP machine.
