The Nova Nasal Mask Frame System connects the mask cushion and headgear to one another at one end and attaches to your CPAP machine at the other. Fisher & Paykel offers the frame system as a replacement part that you can buy separately from the other components to make it easier and more affordable to swap out CPAP mask pieces as needed. 

This replacement system includes the frame, tube, swivel, and diffuser. It comes as one piece, so it’s easy to swap in and out without significant assembly.

Daily

  1. The mask frame system should get washed daily. You can remove the diffuser and wash that weekly instead of daily.
  2. Fill a tub with lukewarm soapy water, then soak the frame system along with the mask cushion for up to 10 minutes. 
  3. Rinse off all soap using fresh water.
  4. Lay the frame system and mask cushion out to dry away from direct sunlight. 

Fisher & Paykel recommend replacing the mask frame system every 12 months. However, you may be able to get insurance coverage for replacements as often as every 3 months. Avoid ultraviolet (UV) cleaners and ozone cleaners, as these pose health risks and can damage your mask.

How It Works

This mask frame system is an essential component of the Nova Nasal Mask. It includes the frame assembly, short tube, and swivel. The frame assembly attaches to your CPAP cushion and headgear, a diffuser diverts outcoming air to decrease noise, and the tubing is connected to the front of the frame assembly. It also has a swivel at the end that’s compatible with all standard CPAP hoses.

Pressurized air travels from your CPAP machine through a hose to the frame assembly and into the mask cushion around your nose. Together, all these pieces work to support your breathing passages and prevent upper airway collapse. 

How to Use It

  1. The frame, tube, swivel, and diffuser all come as one unit that doesn't need assembly. Don’t attempt to separate any components other than the diffuser, which is removable.
  2. Attach your mask cushion to the back of the frame by pushing the two together until they connect. 
  3. Place the cushion on your nose, then swing the attached headgear around the back of your head. Attach the pivoting headgear clip to the frame assembly’s socket. You should hear the headgear click into place. 
  4. Tighten the top headgear strap, then the bottom headgear strap. 
  5. Press your CPAP’s power button and begin therapy. Adjust your headgear straps as needed.
