This unique, proprietary material consists of a hyperelastic polymer buckling column gel. It forms distinct squares with walls that collapse and spring back based on the sleeper’s position to cradle their body while letting air circulate. Transitional polyfoam reinforces the grid and deepens the contouring, while pocketed coils add bounce and zoned support.

To better assess the Purple RestorePlus Hybrid’s performance, the team brought this mattress to our dedicated sleep lab and applied our comprehensive product testing methodology. We analyzed the performance characteristics that usually matter most to sleepers, like pressure relief, temperature control, and motion isolation, gathering both qualitative and quantitative data for a robust overview of the bed’s strengths and weaknesses.

What’s It Like to Sleep on the Purple RestorePlus Mattress?

The Purple RestorePlus Mattress balances contouring, breathability, and responsiveness. The 3-inch layer of GelFlex Grid quickly adjusts to the sleeper’s body shape to reduce pressure around wider regions, like a side sleeper’s hips and shoulders. A polyfoam layer deepens that cradling. Underneath, a pocketed coil core enhances the bed’s responsiveness, and targeted firmness zones are designed to support healthy sleep posture. All three layers also let air circulate to reduce heat buildup. 

Because of its unique design, the Purple RestorePlus stands out most for pressure relief, temperature control, and motion isolation. These traits often appeal to sleepers with aches and pains, hot sleepers, and those who share their bed with a partner. Meanwhile, its medium (5) feel may be best suited for side sleepers and individuals under 130 pounds.

Sleeping Positions, Body Weight, and Firmness

We rated the Purple RestorePlus as a 5 out of 10 on our firmness scale, with 1 being the softest and 10 the firmest. This equates to a medium feel, which is on the softer side. However, the ideal firmness for any person depends on their sleep position and body size. Side sleepers and individuals under 130 pounds usually prefer a plusher model, while stomach sleepers and those over 230 often benefit from firmer options. 

To paint a clearer picture of how the Purple RestorePlus might perform for different individuals, we had testers in different weight groups lie on the mattress in all three normal sleep positions. Side sleepers and those under 130 pounds awarded the mattress its highest ratings, while stomach sleepers and those over 230 pounds felt more support would improve their sleep posture.

Side Sleepers

The Purple RestorePlus is a good match for many side sleepers, especially those under 230 pounds. Side sleepers often experience hot spots when their shoulders and hips dig into their mattress, so the Purple RestorePlus’ ability to redistribute that weight is helpful for this group. At the same time, enhanced support in the center third of the bed should help limit sagging and keep the spine on a relatively even plane.

Back Sleepers

Back sleepers typically look for a combination of support and contouring, which the Purple RestorePlus can deliver for many back sleepers under 130 pounds. The zoned support helps reduce excessive hip sinkage, while the GelFlex Grid and polyfoam mold to the shape of the sleeper’s lower back for cushioning and lumbar support. Back sleepers over 130 pounds also enjoyed how the bed adjusted to their shape, but many would have appreciated a firmer feel.

Stomach Sleepers

Since stomach sleepers generally need more support than other sleep styles to prevent misalignment, the Purple RestorePlus Hybrid’s medium (5) feel may be softer than ideal. Individuals under 130 pounds should get enough support to rest comfortably, but those weighing 130 pounds or more might notice their midsections sinking deeper than the rest of their bodies. While the coil system’s targeted support counteracts this to an extent, some may still feel like their lower backs aren’t maintaining a neutral position.

The Purple RestorePlus provided exceptional pressure relief during our tests. Its 3-inch proprietary GelFlex Grid responds quickly to position changes, redistributing pressure to reduce discomfort. The additional layer of polyfoam adds to the cradling effect for deep, consistent pressure relief. Additionally, three firmness zones in the coil core target the areas most in need of support and softness to promote alignment. 

Temperature Control

Because of their breathable coil cores, hybrid models often regulate temperatures well, but the Purple RestorePlus still outperformed our expectations. Its GelFlex Grid is designed to dissipate heat thanks in large part to its open structure, and our team found that the cover wicked moisture effectively. Air also seemed to flow well through the cover, polyfoam layer, and coil system to reduce heat buildup on the surface.

Motion Isolation

8.5/10

We didn't detect much motion transfer during our tests of the Purple RestorePlus, and this can be attributed to the bed's wealth of motion-isolating materials. The GelFlex Grid’s columns buckle under a sleeper’s weight, and the polyfoam further absorbs movement. Since the support core uses pocketed coils, minimal vibrations travel across the system. Sleepers who share their bed may appreciate this characteristic.

Perimeter Support

6.5/10

The Purple RestorePlus has moderate edge support. Dense foam rails along the perimeter of the comfort layer help fortify the edges, but our testing team still reported some compression. It took most team members some effort to get into and out of bed, and the compression limited how much of the sleeping surface felt fully secure to them.

Durability

6/10

Most mattresses last 6 to 8 years, which we’d expect the Purple RestorePlus' lifespan to fall within this range. While the memory foam and polyfoam comfort layers in other hybrid models compress to adjust to the sleeper’s shape, the Purple RestorePlus’ GelFlex Grid contours by stretching and flexing. This may help the surface resist lasting impressions. 

Ease of Movement

7/10

While the Purple RestorePlus uses responsive materials, its overall ease of movement was slightly above average. The GelFlex Grid springs back to its original shape with position changes, so there isn’t a significant lingering impression, and the coil system adds bounce. However, the medium (5) feel let our testers sink in deeply enough that it took mild effort to change positions.

Sex

The Purple RestorePlus’ combination of responsive coils, temperature-regulating materials, and surface-level cushioning makes the bed moderately well suited to sex. That said, its plusher feel and midrange bounce may not seem as buoyant as some hybrid models.

Odor Emissions

The Purple RestorePlus may have a slight new mattress smell when first unpacked, and the odors should air out within a few days. Mattresses that contain foam and ship compressed often have an initial odor from off-gassing, which occurs when volatile organic compounds (VOCs) from manufacturing dissipate. While VOCs are thought to be safe at low levels, some dislike the smell. Purple’s polyfoams are CertiPUR-US certified, meaning they’re independently verified to meet content and emissions standards.

What Is the Purple RestorePlus Mattress Made Of?

The Purple RestorePlus starts with a 3-inch layer of the brand’s GelFlex Grid, a hyper-elastic polymer material with a buckling column design engineered for contouring. Polyfoam wraps around the perimeter to fortify the edges. Underneath is a layer of polyfoam. The final base layer uses pocketed coils arranged in three firmness zones for more targeted support. 

The mattress is encased in a fabric cover that combines polyester, rayon, and elastic. It is designed to move with the comfort system while wicking moisture for enhanced temperature control. An antimicrobial fabric treatment is intended to keep the mattress fresh.

Availability

The Purple RestorePlus is available directly through the Purple website, through third-party vendor websites, and at brick-and-mortar Purple stores and retail partner locations. 

Orders through the Purple website can ship to the 50 U.S. states.
Shipping

Orders through the Purple website ship free within the contiguous U.S. Additional charges apply to orders to Alaska and Canada. 

Most mattresses leave the warehouse within 1 to 3 business days and arrive at their destination 5 to 10 business days after that. 

Once the mattress is unpacked, it may take up to 24 hours to expand. However, you should be able to sleep on it after 4 to 6 hours.
Additional Services

White Glove delivery is available for an additional fee. In the contiguous United States, the service costs $200.

Old mattress removal is included in the service if you choose. 
Sleep Trial

The Purple RestorePlus comes with a 100-night trial period. The company requires that you sleep on the mattress for at least 21 days to adjust before initiating a return. 

To place a return, you may be asked to provide photo evidence that the mattress remains undamaged, clean, and with the law tags attached. Purple or a Purple partner will remove your unwanted mattress. Transportation charges will be deducted from your refund.
Warranty

Purple backs the RestorePlus with a 10-year limited warranty that covers faulty materials and workmanship, such as visible indentations over 1 inch deep and cracking or splitting of the materials. The warranty for the cover lasts 2 years. 

Purple may choose to repair or replace a mattress with an eligible defect. Alternatively, the owner can choose to upgrade to a more premium model or larger mattress size for the price difference. In either case, the owner is responsible for transportation costs.

To qualify, the mattress must be used with proper support and have the law tags intact. Proof of purchase and photo evidence is also required. 

The policy applies to the original purchaser who bought their mattress from Purple or an authorized retailer and used it as a consumer within the United States. The policy does not apply to demo or floor models. Purple may deny coverage if there’s evidence of neglect, abuse, or other damage.
