What’s it Like to Sleep on the Novilla Bliss Mattress?

The Novilla Bliss’ four foam layers balance cushioning and support with the signature contouring of memory foam. Because of the closely conforming memory foam, our testers found that the Bliss helped relieve pressure. Its all-foam design also absorbs most vibrations, leading to minimal motion transfer. Both the 10-inch and 12-inch models performed best for side and back sleepers under 130 pounds.

We rated the Novilla Bliss as medium (5) on our 10-point firmness scale. This puts it in the middle between soft and firm mattresses, striking a balance between soft contouring and sturdy support.

Our testers determined that both the 10- and 12-inch versions of the Novilla Bliss perform best for side and back sleepers under 130 pounds. It wasn’t firm enough for our stomach sleepers over 130 pounds or any of our testers over 230 pounds.

Side Sleepers

Side sleepers on our team who weigh less than 230 pounds were supported and comfortable on both height options, especially those who weigh under 130 pounds. The all-foam construction provides the right amount of cushioning under the shoulders and hips while still providing sufficient support to maintain spinal alignment. Those over 230 pounds found the bed too soft.

Back Sleepers

Our team’s back sleepers under 230 pounds were adequately supported on the Novilla Bliss. Because they don’t sink too far into the medium (5) surface, these sleepers found the combination of memory foam and polyfoam just supportive enough to relieve pressure. Back sleepers over 230 pounds found the Novilla Bliss too soft to support the lumbar region.

Stomach Sleepers

Stomach sleepers on our testing team didn’t find quite enough support on the Novilla Bliss, though testers under 130 pounds found it relatively comfortable. Stomach sleepers need extra support at the midsection to keep the spine aligned.

The Novilla Vitality, a medium firm (6) hybrid mattress, performed better for stomach sleepers between 130 and 230 pounds, though that mattress also fell short of the firmness required for testers over 230 pounds.

The Novilla Bliss’ impressive pressure relief stems from its four-layer foam construction. The top layer of gel-infused memory foam effectively conforms to the body, redistributing weight and mitigating pressure point discomfort. The subsequent polyfoam layers promote airflow and provide a sturdy base. Our testers found that this construction balances pressure relief and overall support to alleviate tension and maintain spinal alignment.

Temperature Control

The gel-infused memory foam layer works to actively dissipate heat, while the underlying polyfoam layers are designed to encourage breathability. However, the thicker layer of memory foam in the 12-inch model absorbs more heat and contributes to a slightly warmer sleeping experience. Those who sleep excessively hot may prefer the Novilla Vitality Hybrid.

Motion Isolation

4/10

Our team discovered that the Novilla Bliss’ all-foam construction provides very good motion isolation. The memory foam and successive layers of polyfoam work in tandem to absorb movement effectively, minimizing sleep disturbances caused by a partner’s movements. The dense polyfoam base further enhances stability, making this mattress a great choice for light sleepers, people who sleep with pets, and others who value motion isolation.

Perimeter Support

3/10

Foam beds often struggle to support body weight along the perimeter. We found that the 10-inch model has better edge support, likely because its dense support core is closer to the surface. The 12-inch model’s thicker layers of plush foam result in more noticeable sinkage around the perimeter, making it feel less secure. While not important for every sleeper, edge support affects a mattress’ durability and its usable surface area.

Durability

Generally, all-foam mattresses should be replaced after 6 to 7 years of use. Because of its thicker support core, our testers predict the 12-inch Novilla Bliss will reach this estimate, while the 10-inch model may be more prone to sagging and body impressions over time. However, these are just estimates, and a mattress’ actual lifespan depends on proper care as well as a sleeper’s body weight and sleep position.

Ease of Movement

2/10

The Bliss’ memory foam and polyfoam layers, while great for contouring and pressure relief, react slowly to changes in position. This means sleepers may feel somewhat trapped when attempting to move or change sleeping postures. The all-foam construction also minimizes bounce, further impeding movement.

Sex

2/10

In assigning this rating, our team considered the mattress’ lack of bounce and deep contouring, which limits mobility. Additionally, the bed’s limited edge support and below-average temperature control could be detractors during sex. Thus, this mattress might not meet the needs of those who are looking for the best mattress for sex.

Odor Emissions

Off-gassing is a term for the chemical odor that occurs when compressed foam releases volatile organic compounds (VOCs) after being unboxed. The Novilla Bliss contains four layers of foam, so we noticed that it required a fair amount of time to off-gas before the smell dissipated. After unboxing, be sure to place the mattress in a well-ventilated room.

The Novilla Bliss is an all-foam mattress encased in a removable cover made from rayon derived from bamboo. It is designed to be hypoallergenic and promote airflow. 

The comfort system includes an initial layer of gel-infused memory foam engineered to combat heat retention. It’s followed by two layers of polyfoam. The lower layer is convoluted, meaning it’s made with peaks and valleys to increase airflow and provide a softer feel.

A base layer of high-density polyfoam provides structure and improves the bed’s durability. While the basic materials of the 10- and 12-inch models are the same, the taller model contains thicker layers in the comfort system and support core.

Novilla offers a range of foam and hybrid mattresses in addition to the Bliss. The Tranquil, Delight, Rejuvenate, Lullaby, and Placidity are all-foam mattresses with varying heights and firmness levels. The Serenity, Vitality, Amenity, Joviality, and Vigour are hybrid options that combine foam comfort layers with pocketed coils.

The Serenity and the Vitality both have medium firm (6) feels. Our testers found the Serenity offers above-average ease of movement because of the responsiveness of its pocketed coils. The Vitality was the best all-around mattress for our testers, working well for all body weights and sleep positions except stomach sleepers over 230 pounds.
