Leesa Mattress Review

Leesa Mattress: An Introduction
Leesa was founded in 2015 as one of the first mattress-in-a-box companies. The company is known for its commitment to social responsibility through its mattress donation program. Currently, for every 10 mattresses sold, Leesa donates one mattress to someone in need.
The flagship Leesa Original Mattress, a 10-inch all-foam bed, was the first mattress developed by the company. They’ve since branched out to offer four more models, including the budget-friendly Studio Mattress and three hybrid models: the Original Hybrid, the Sapira Hybrid, and the Legend Hybrid.
We’ll provide all the details about the Leesa Original Mattress, including its construction, materials, and pricing. You’ll also learn how the mattress fared when rated in our performance categories, like pressure relief, temperature control, and ease of movement.
How We Review
Our testing team uses our rigorous methodology to test and assess each mattress we review. These ratings help us evaluate each product in depth, which can help you make an informed purchasing decision.
What’s It Like to Sleep on the Leesa Mattress?
Eight inches of high-quality polyfoam and 2 inches of plush memory foam give the Leesa Original Mattress a contouring yet supportive feel. The breathable cover and specialty polyfoam in the comfort layer are designed to help the mattress disperse heat.
We found the Leesa Mattress provides good pressure relief and absorbs movement for an undisturbed sleep. This makes it a good fit for those who share a bed and side sleepers under 230 pounds. But sleepers over 230 pounds may need a bed firmer than the Leesa Original’s medium (5) feel for proper support.
Leesa Mattress Pros and Cons
Pros
- Enhanced pressure relief and motion isolation
- High-quality foam, certified free of harmful ingredients
- Generous 100-night sleep trial
Cons
- Not ideal for sleepers over 230 pounds
- All-foam construction offers minimal edge support
- Not firm enough for most stomach sleepers
Sleeping Positions, Body Weight, and Firmness
The Leesa Original rates as a medium (5) on our 10-point firmness scale. Mattresses at this firmness level offer some sink with significant body contouring.
The firmness of a mattress is one factor that determines how comfortable it feels to you. Your body weight and sleep position can help determine the firmness that’s best for you. That’s why our team includes mattress testers of different sizes and preferred sleep positions.
The Leesa Original Mattress performed best for side sleepers under 230 pounds. Back sleepers under 130 pounds may also find adequate comfort and support from the Leesa Original. However, most stomach sleepers and sleepers over 230 pounds would be better supported by a firmer mattress.
Leesa Mattress Ratings
Side Sleepers
Our side sleeping testers under 230 pounds found the Leesa Original to be quite comfortable. The medium (5) feel and foam construction helps support side sleepers’ shoulders and hips without creating pressure points. Generally, our side sleepers over 230 pounds were a bit more mixed, with some of them experiencing too much sink for proper spinal alignment. Read more: Best Mattresses for Heavy Side Sleepers.
Back Sleepers
In general, back sleepers need a firmer mattress to support their lower back and hips. The Leesa Mattress performed well for our back sleepers under 130 pounds, but those over 130 pounds may be better suited to the Leesa Original Hybrid because its hybrid design provides more support.
Stomach Sleepers
The Leesa Mattress may not be a the best option for most stomach sleepers. Some of our testers under 130 pounds received adequate support, but most stomach sleepers need a firmer mattress to keep their midsection from sinking too deeply.
Our Performance Ratings
What Is the Leesa Mattress Made Of?
The Leesa Original contains three layers of foam and a gray cover made from polyester and spandex. The cover is a breathable knit that’s intended to keep the bed’s surface cool.
The comfort layer consists of 4 inches of foam. A 2-inch layer of specialty, breathable polyfoam is followed by a 2-inch layer of body-contouring memory foam.
Six inches of durable, high-density polyfoam make up the support core. The foams used in the mattress are certified by GREENGUARD Gold and CertiPUR-US, which means they don’t contain chemicals known to be harmful and have to meet standards for low emissions.

Which Leesa Mattress Is Right for You?
In addition to the Leesa Original Mattress, Leesa offers four other mattress options that appeal to various sleep needs. The Leesa Studio Mattress is the company’s other foam offering and its most budget-friendly product.
The other three mattresses are hybrids, which combine foam and pocketed coils in their construction. The Leesa Original Hybrid is a good option for back and side sleepers over 130 pounds. The Leesa Sapira Hybrid performs well for almost all sleep styles except for back and stomach sleepers over 230 pounds. Leesa’s luxury option is the Leesa Legend, which performs best for side sleepers.

Leesa Mattress FAQ
Because it’s an all-foam bed, the Leesa Mattress likely won’t last as long as a latex or innerspring mattress. However, if taken care of properly, the Leesa Mattress should last up to seven years, on average.
Sleepers over 230 pounds usually need a firmer bed than the Leesa Mattress. However, it may perform adequately for side sleepers in this weight group.
Once it’s unboxed, the Leesa Mattress takes about an hour to decompress. After a few days, it will fully off-gas and expand, making it ready for sleep.
You don’t need to flip the Leesa Mattress. Most foam mattresses have layers in a specific order for optimal support and contouring and do not need to be flipped like a traditional spring mattress.
The Leesa Mattress is sold in several retail stores, including Macy’s, West Elm, and Pottery Barn. You can also visit the Leesa showroom in New York City. If there isn’t a brick-and-mortar location near you, you can utilize Leesa’s 100-night sleep trial to try out the mattress at home.
