Leesa Legend Hybrid Mattress Review

Leesa Legend Hybrid Mattress: An Introduction
Since Leesa began shipping boxed mattresses in 2014, the company’s product line has expanded to include several foam and hybrid models. The Legend Hybrid is its luxury option, featuring multiple layers of foams, springs, and microcoils, all wrapped in a cushy cover containing natural and recycled materials.
The Legend boasts a number of construction elements to ensure a plush feel, good ventilation, and medium firm support. The Legend’s multiple layers work together to provide ventilation, minimize motion transfer, maximize pressure relief, and provide support where it’s needed most.
Our testers found that the Legend lived up to its ambitions. It received very good scores in most performance categories and its drawbacks are few, making it one of the best mattresses for many. If your budget allows, the Legend deserves a closer look.
How We Review
Our testing team carefully evaluates each mattress we review, rating it in a number of performance categories. Our testers focus on the qualities that are most important when choosing a mattress. Since body size and sleep position impact mattress preferences, our team is diverse, ensuring accurate, inclusive ratings.
What’s It Like to Sleep on the Leesa Legend Mattress?
The multilayer construction of the Leesa Legend gives it a medium firm feel balanced by a soft, cushiony surface that many people find very comfortable.
If you’re a side sleeper, you are likely to appreciate the Leesa Legend. In our sleep lab, side sleepers who weigh between 130 and 230 pounds loved the mattress, rating it as excellent. It provides adaptive cushioning, while still maintaining a medium firm surface that resists sagging.
We found the Legend to have a cool feel since heat buildup is reduced by its breathable cover, ventilated foam layers, and airflow through the springs in the support layer.
Leesa Legend Mattress Pros and Cons
Pros
- Multiple layers effectively balance pressure relief and support
- Minimal motion transfer
- Sleeps cool
Cons
- May feel too firm for lighter weight sleepers
- Slight off-gassing when initially unboxed
- Available in just one firmness option
Sleeping Positions, Body Weight, and Firmness
Our testing team rated the Leesa Legenda Hybrid as medium firm, scoring a 6 on our firmness scale of 1 to 10. This level of firmness provides a good balance of softness and support, and is a good choice for many sleepers.
As our team evaluates a mattress, we consider factors that affect mattress preference, like body size and favored sleep position. Our testers found that the Leesa Legend’s multilayered construction was most comfortable for side sleepers, especially those who weigh between 130 and 230 pounds. It also impressed side sleepers over 230 pounds and back sleepers between 130 and 230 pounds.
Leesa Legend Sleeper Ratings
Side Sleepers
The Legend’s ability to cushion side sleepers’ pressure points while providing medium firm support earned it an excellent rating from our mid-weight side sleeping testers. The mattress’s zoned support combined with memory foam’s ability to cradle the body’s contours earned very good marks from our heavier testers. Lighter side sleepers might be happier on a slightly softer mattress, like the Leesa Original.
Back Sleepers
Most testers who sleep on their backs liked the Legend’s ability to cushion the lower back area while still providing enough support to maintain spinal alignment. Back sleepers in the mid-weight range gave very good marks to the Legend. Because lighter sleepers exert less pressure on the mattress’s foam, it provides less cushioning for them. Lightweight back sleepers might be more comfortable on the plush Leesa Original.
Stomach Sleepers
Stomach sleepers do best on a mattress that is firm enough to keep their spines properly aligned while still providing some cushioning to the front of their bodies. Our stomach sleepers under 230 pounds were satisfied with the Legend, but stomach sleepers over 230 pounds might consider firmer mattresses for better support.
Our Performance Ratings
What Is the Leesa Legend Mattress Made Of?
With an emphasis on recycled materials, the Legend Hybrid has multiple layers that work together to provide medium firm support as well as adaptable pressure relief.
Made with organic cotton and Merino wool, the Legend’s cover material is blended with fibers made from recycled water bottles. The comfort layer contains ventilated breathable foam to cool and contour. A layer of memory foam provides pressure relief. Under the memory foam, a zoned layer of microcoils and stabilizing foam help minimize motion transfer. An underlying layer of transition foam layer bolsters support.
The Legend’s support core is constructed of almost 2000 pocketed springs, made from recycled steel, with extra edge support. All foams in the Legend mattress are Certi-PUR-US certified.

Which Leesa Mattress Is Right for You?
Leesa offers a number of mattress options, with models designed for shoppers on a budget, shoppers looking for luxury, and people looking for a mattress engineered to stay cool.
The memory foam Studio Mattress comes at a very affordable price, although it does not include the multilayered luxury of the Legend. The all-foam Leesa Original and Original Hybrid cost a bit more than the Studio, but still represent a solid value. The Sapira is made to sleep cool, though our testers found its temperature neutrality was comparable to the Legend’s.
Overall, the Legend earned the highest overall performance ratings in our sleep lab and its superior quality is reflected in its price.
