DreamCloud Luxury Hybrid: Our Verdict

Is it possible for an affordable mattress to feel like a luxury item? To put this idea to the test, our team of experts slept on, sat on, and rolled around on the DreamCloud Classic Hybrid, which purports to offer both high quality and affordability.

Despite many hybrid models flaunting a hefty price tag as a testament to their premium materials, we were pleasantly surprised to find that the DreamCloud Classic Hybrid, priced at roughly half the cost of some of its competitors, provided a (dare we say) dreamy night’s sleep for our testers.

The seasoned sleep experts on our team conducted hands-on lab and field testing for this review. The testers represent a wide range of sleeping positions and body types so we could gather a robust and well-rounded set of data to analyze the model’s overall performance.

During our tests, we found this mattress-in-a-box model well-suited to a broad range of sleepers, making it a good choice for partners with different preferences. Across weight groups, our back and stomach sleepers found the mattress provided sufficient support. The DreamCloud Classic Hybrid’s comfort layers also limited pressure buildup for the side sleepers on our team who weigh over 130 pounds.

This versatile appeal is thanks to the layered construction that combines memory foam, polyfoam, springs, and plush fabric for a balanced performance that scored relatively well in all of our testing categories. Is it the GOAT of all mattresses? Probably not. But it is a solid choice that won’t disappoint (or dissipate your bank account).

We also like that DreamCloud stands by its product. Despite its lower-than-average price tag, it comes with a generous 365-night return policy and lifetime warranty.

About the DreamCloud Classic Hybrid: An Intro

The DreamCloud Classic Hybrid is the brand’s flagship hybrid model and features a medium firm (6) feel and 12-inch profile. DreamCloud produces three hybrid options – The DreamCloud, The DreamCloud Premier, and The DreamCloud Luxe – all of which combine foam and individually wrapped springs. Each of these mattresses is also available in al all-foam design. They each vary slightly in their firmness levels, height, and material make-up.

Our testing team put the DreamCloud Classic Hybrid to the test, assessing it on pressure relief, temperature regulation, motion isolation, edge support, and other factors that matter most to most sleepers. We summarized our findings to delve into how it performed for different sleeper types so you can decide whether it’s the best mattress for you.

Our Key Findings: What It’s Like to Sleep on the DreamCloud Classic Hybrid

Budget-minded bed shoppers will be drawn to the price point of the DreamCloud Classic Hybrid, which is surprisingly inexpensive for going toe to toe quality-wise with many higher-priced competitors, but they’ll stick around for its sleep experience. Hybrid is code for “it has something for everyone,” and in this case, that’s memory foam cushioning up top with a springy bounce from the coils in the support layers.

And for those who run hot, (I’m talking to you, menopausal women or people sharing a bed with a toddler), you can feel confident that this mattress won’t contribute to your body heat, thanks to the cooling gel layer and moisture-wicking topper.

So how did it stack up when put to the sleep test? Coming in at a 6 on our 10-point firmness scale, medium firm means the mattress has universal appeal, which is important if you’re sharing the bed with a partner who has slightly different sleep preferences. If you’re a hard-core Team Soft or Team Firm sleeper,  this middle-of-the-road pick might not be ideal for you, however.

Back and stomach sleepers on our team had an overall more positive sleep experience than our side sleepers. However, I myself, as an average weight side sleeper, did feel that it was just the right firmness for me — it took pressure off of my joints, and I didn’t feel like I was sinking in. When I did flip onto my back, I found that the memory foam hugged my body in all the right places, providing that “floating on a cloud” feeling.

Speaking of flipping, if you’re a tosser-turner (guilty!), you’ll be less of a disturbance to your partner thanks to the DreamCloud Classic Hybrid’s forgiving foam layers and individually-wrapped spring construction. This construction duo also allows you to move more easily across the bed—often a complaint for some memory foam mattress sleepers.

Our heavier team members (over 230 pounds) said they felt well-supported, regardless of sleep position. The lowest rating came from our lightest (less than 130 pounds), side-sleeping team member who had a Goldilocks-like reaction, reporting that the mattress was too firm.

What Other Reviewers Say

Third-party reviewers had similar findings to our experts, agreeing that it’s an excellent hybrid mattress choice for its value and versatility. US News reviewers point out that the bed has a “hotel bed” feel, and we agree that it does have an ideal bed-away-from-home luxury, given how it can accommodate most body types and sleep styles.

Other reviews had some minor differences. For example, Sleepopolis doesn’t recommend the mattress for strictly side sleepers at all, stating the DreamCloud Classic Hybrid is too firm. But our research and my own experience found that a person’s body type might play a bigger role than sleep style alone.

And while our review team thought that the perimeter support on the DreamCloud Classic Hybrid was above average, USA Today reviewers were unimpressed after performing their weighted bag and sit-to-stand testing.

What Real Customers Say

Since the expert squads are but a fraction of real-world sleepers, we performed an analysis of thousands of validated customer reviews of the DreamCloud Classic Hybrid. Overall, customer-owners seemed highly satisfied, and in some cases, expressed surprise that the mattress exceeded their expectations, especially since they didn’t get to test it out prior to ordering.

Once unboxed, many reviewers reported significant improvements in sleep quality, including better sleep through the night and waking up feeling rested and free from back pain. Users who tended to sleep hot mentioned that the DreamCloud Classic Hybrid did a good job of keeping them cool throughout the night.

As one reviewer expressed: “My husband requires a firm mattress, and I prefer a soft, plush mattress, so we’ve always had to sleep separately in order to get a good night’s sleep. But this mattress somehow serves both purposes, and we can now sleep in the same bed and both get a great night’s sleep.”

One customer shared data to back up her review: “I have a sleep app, and before I received my DreamCloud, my scores were in the low 70s. With my DreamCloud, my scores are consistently in the mid-to-high 80s.”

Some owners admitted that the mattress does take some getting used to. “I’ll be honest, at first I was not a fan, but after a period of adjustment I’m really pleased with my purchase!”

While others were pleased from the get-go: “It’s been just perfect since the first night. I sleep longer, wake up refreshed, feeling great.”

While most agreed the overall support is good, some mentioned the edge support could be better. Says one customer: “Edge support when sitting on the edge of the bed is lacking, but I don’t notice any issues when lying on the mattress.”

Our Performance Ratings

Movement Isolation

0/10

Our testers found that the DreamCloud Classic Hybrid did a good job of isolating motion and barely noticed when another tester moved around on the other side of the bed. That’s thanks to the multiple foam layers that absorb minor vibrations, and the individually wrapped springs that limit the spread of significant movement.

Perimeter Support

0/10

While it doesn’t have the best perimeter support on the market, most testers said they didn’t feel restricted when sleeping close to the edge. Sitting on the edge, while comfortable for most, was a little less so for testers weighing more than 230 pounds. Still, the thicker coils around the perimeter did a more than adequate job of allowing the maximum usable sleep area.

Durability

0/10

For a budget-friendly mattress, our product experts were confident this mattress should have above-average lasting power thanks to the stability provided by the pocketed coil core and medium firmness level. That said, mattress life expectancy varies between owners and depends on mattress usage, care, support, and other factors.

Pressure Relief

0/10

The DreamCloud Classic Hybrid offered our testers solid pressure relief. The comfort system (which includes a quilted cover with polyfoam, a gel-infused memory foam comfort layer, and a polyfoam transition layer) simultaneously cushioned the surface and redistributed the sleeper’s weight to take pressure off key areas, like hips and shoulders.

Odor Emissions

0/10

Any mattress made of synthetic foam that ships compressed may emit volatile organic compounds (VOCs) until it has aired out, and the DreamCloud is no exception. Our testers noted a slight new bed smell upon unboxing, but it dissipated after a few days in a well-ventilated room. Additionally, this model uses CertiPUR-US certified foam, meaning its contents have been independently tested for emissions.

Ease of Movement

0/10

Need to flip from your stomach to your back? Unlike all-foam mattresses, the DreamCloud’s hybrid design facilitated positional changes due to its bounce and resilience. The individually wrapped coils responded quickly to our sleepers’ movements, and limited lingering body impressions. Most sleepers didn’t experience a sinking or trapped feeling in the bed.

Temperature Control

0/10

While mattresses with memory foam often retain heat, our testing showed the DreamCloud Classic Hybrid remained a relatively neutral temperature throughout the night. The cover is breathable and temperature regulating, and the gel-infused memory foam layer is designed to dissipate heat, making it a good choice for hot sleepers. Individually wrapped coils also leave ample room for airflow and further improve heat dispersion.

Where to Buy a DreamCloud Classic Hybrid

In addition to purchasing directly through the company’s website, you can buy the DreamCloud Classic Hybrid at third-party brick-and-mortar stores and online via websites like Amazon. Purchasing from DreamCloud’s website is typically the most advantageous option due to the direct-to-consumer pricing, sleep trial, and discounts and sales offered throughout the year.

DreamCloud Mattress Shipping

Shipping is free within the contiguous U.S. For an additional fee, DreamCloud Classic Hybrid also ships to Alaska and Hawaii.

The mattress ships compressed in a box. When it arrives, owners should move the mattress into its room, unbox it, carefully remove the plastic, and allow it to decompress for three days.

DreamCloud Mattress Trial

The DreamCloud Classic Hybrid comes with a 365-night sleep trial, which includes a mandatory 30-night break-in period. Sleepers who wish to return the mattress during the trial window are eligible for a full refund of the purchase price.
