Frequently asked questions
What happens after I complete my test?
Check your email for your results—they'll arrive within 1–5 business days. There will be a link to schedule your results review consultation with a member of our clinical care team.
How does the Home Sleep Study work?
The WatchPAT One Home Sleep Study features a wrist sensor, pulse oximeter, and chest sensor. The device uses three points of contact – the wrist, finger, and neck – to collect data for seven key sleep apnea metrics.
The device measures central and obstructive sleep apnea events, true sleep time, snoring, breathing rates, oxygen saturation levels, heart rate, your body's position, and how much time you spend in each sleep stage.
Designed for comprehensive results, our sleep test helps your doctor make an informed diagnosis and therapy recommendations. The WatchPAT's sensors send data directly to a doctor via your cell phone's Bluetooth.
Can I wear nail polish, artificial nails, or jewelry during my sleep study?
For the most accurate results, remove nail polish, gel, acrylics, or other artificial nails from the finger where you’ll wear the sensor. These can interfere with the sensor’s ability to collect a clear reading. You should also remove rings, bracelets, watches, and other jewelry from the hand and wrist where you’ll wear the device to ensure a secure, comfortable fit.
Is the WatchPAT One Home Sleep Study approved for DOT?
Yes, the WatchPAT One is FDA approved and accepted for use by the Department of Transportation (DOT). However, it is not approved for use by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA).
Can people under age 18 do the Home Sleep Study?
No, the WatchPAT One Home Sleep Study cannot be used by children under 18 years of age. The device is designed and calibrated for adult use, and its accuracy may be affected by the smaller size of a child’s fingers.
If a sleep disorder is suspected in a child, it’s important to consult with a healthcare provider who can recommend the appropriate diagnostic tools tailored to pediatric needs.
Will the Home Sleep Study cause sleep problems?
Some people who take our Home Sleep Study experience anxiety during the night, which can make it hard to fall asleep and lead to inaccurate results. However, we're confident you'll be more comfortable and relaxed in your own bed than if you participated in an overnight sleep study at a sleep center.
For most people, the test can gather enough information after one night – even if you are nervous and experience sleep disruptions. To be considered a sufficient study, the data collected must include at least 6 hours of total recording time and a minimum of 4 hours of actual sleep time.
Do I need a smartphone to complete my Home Sleep Study?
Yes, a compatible smartphone is required. The WatchPATOne Home Sleep Study app guides you through setup, ensures proper sensor placement, and transmits your sleep data for analysis. Check compatibility: Apple App Store | Google Play
